The Vision Iowa Board has granted $100,000 to Winneshiek County for the acquisition of durable public art along Trout Run Trail.  Trout Run Trail is a 12-mile loop recreational trail conceived by the Trails of Winneshiek group, built and sponsored by the City of Decorah and Winneshiek County, with generous cooperation from the DNR, landowners, contributors and Vision Iowa.  The public art projects are to be used as an impetus to bring in additional donations to the trail project.  To supervise the installation of public art along Trout Run Trail, Winneshiek County and the City of Decorah created the Trout Run Trail Public Art Committee through a 28E agreement.  The TRT Public Art Committee has selected proposals from three artists.  Click on the artist's name for details about their art work.

Bounnak Thammavong is an Iowa City artist who loves trout fishing and whose sculptures often take inspiration from the natural world.

Dean Schwarz is a Decorah artist who built a ceramic tile sign for the trail

Doug Freeman is a Twin Cities artist who creates unique, one-of-a-kind sculptures that are created with inspirations from their surroundings.

This website is sponsored by Trails of Winneshiek, a non-profit organization of Winneshiek County citizens who have initiated the trail project and have invested thousands of volunteer hours developing and promoting it.
